Iterative Substructuring for Hypersingular Integral Equations in R³

Abstract
We study a preconditioner for the h-version of the boundary element method
for hypersingular integral equations in three dimensions.
Our preconditioner is based on iterative substructuring which forms an
important part of the domain decomposition technique.
We prove a bound for the improved condition numbers which behaves
polylogarithmically in H/h. Here H is the size of the subdomains and
h is the size of the elements used to construct the boundary element
spaces. Numerical results which support our theory are reported.
